The Melbourne University Debating Society is hosting its Annual Dinner on the 31st of August, starting at 7.30pm. The dinner will be held at the lovely upstairs function room at Gurkhas Nepalese Restaraunt on Lygon Street . There are still tickets available for the Annual Dinner, so please purchase your ticket as the event is fast approaching!
To attend this event is $20 for MUDS members and $25 for non-members. For this price you recieve the excellent company of fellow debators, a yummy three course meal, wine and softdrink and the chance to win cool door prizes.
Tickets can be purchased a number of different ways. You can purchase tickets in person before or after British Parliamentary debates on Tuesday nights (for more info including location go to http://www.mudsonline.net)
Alternatively you can transfer the money direct into the MUDS bank account and recieve your ticket on the night. The account number is 517 574 963 and the BSB is 083 457. If you are paying this way there a couple of things you need to remember.
1. Please include that you are paying the amount to the 'Melbourne University Debating Society' and
2. Please include your name in the transaction and keep the transaction reciept so we know who has paid!
This method of payment will be available till Wednesday the 29th of August.
I hope you are able to come to what I'm sure will be a fantastic event.
Cheers!

The Australian Women's Debating Championship is an intervarsity debating tournament held in the September holidays, (funnily enough) just for women. The tournament provides a supportive environment for young debaters to debate with each other, or with older, more experienced debaters, and have quite a bit of fun while you're at it.
This year the tournament will be jointly hosted by Melbourne and Monash universities, and will be held, conveniently, right here on campus. MUDS is hoping to send along a huge contingent, and we'd really encourage women in the club to come along, either as debaters or adjudicators. MUDS has traditionally done very well at the tournament, but if you speak to MUDS girls who've been to the tournament before, they'll tell you that it's the funnest they've been to.
The details: Women's runs from Friday 21 September to Monday 24 September, and includes 6 rounds of debating, social events on all nights, all the food you need, drinks and accommodation. The registration cost is $200 for debaters and $175 for adjudicators, and you are welcome to form your own team, or ask MUDS to organise it for you.
For those of you who are interested in coming, please respond to this email and let us know by Monday 27 August.
For more info about Women's, visit www.awdc2007.com or email awdc2007@gmail.com.
Unfortunately, due to clashes with too many other things at the University, this Sunday's BP Novice comp has had to be cancelled. We are looking to reschedule it to later in semester. Thankyou to those who had expressed a willingness to participate.
*MUDS News
*Once again, competition was fierce! With lots of close debates and speakers scoring highly, the 2007 Hamish Cup looks to be hotly contested. After enjoying tasty baked delights (thanks, Candice!), our 16 teams battled the topic 'This this house would allow parents to select the sex of their children.' Party going debaters and adjudicators then trekked down to the Corkman, our friendly MUDS pub.
Round 3 is on next Tuesday- see you there!
Cheers,
Claire and Candice
