MUDS Annual Dinner

Hi everyone!

I hope you are all excited about the Annual Dinner on Friday night- I know I am!

Just a few things to note if you are planning on attending:

  1. The dress code for the dinner is cocktail (though if you don't have anything suitable don't stress- we're not dress Nazis!)
  1. For those of you who wish to kick on, we will be heading to Charlton's Bar in the city to enjoy some karaoke and pool after Gurkhas closes at 11.30pm
  1. If you haven't RSVP please do via email trina.sophie.malone@gmail.com... (Note: if you can't pay until the night that is ok, but it would be great if I know beforehand that you're planning on attending)
  1. However, if it does dawn on you on Friday night that you would be silly not to show up to such a social cool event and you haven't RSVP you are still welcome to come and pay when you arrive.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Trina Malone

(your sociable social officer at MUDS)

Australian Women's Debating Championships

Women's is coming!

The Australian Women's Debating Championship is an intervarsity debating tournament held in the September holidays, (funnily enough) just for women. The tournament provides a supportive environment for young debaters to debate with each other, or with older, more experienced debaters, and have quite a bit of fun while you're at it.

This year the tournament will be jointly hosted by Melbourne and Monash universities, and will be held, conveniently, right here on campus. MUDS is hoping to send along a huge contingent, and we'd really encourage women in the club to come along, either as debaters or adjudicators. MUDS has traditionally done very well at the tournament, but if you speak to MUDS girls who've been to the tournament before, they'll tell you that it's the funnest they've been to.

The details: Women's runs from Friday 21 September to Monday 24 September, and includes 6 rounds of debating, social events on all nights, all the food you need, drinks and accommodation. The registration cost is $200 for debaters and $175 for adjudicators, and you are welcome to form your own team, or ask MUDS to organise it for you.

For those of you who are interested in coming, please respond to this email and let us know by Monday 27 August.

www.awdc2007.com or email awdc2007@gmail.com.

MUDS News

*Hamish Malcolm Report

Like the rounds before it, round 3 of Hamish Malcolm was jam packed full of Tuesday-night excitement.
After yummy cakes by Candice and training tips by Tony, debaters locked horns over the topic 'that this house would allow indigenous communities to sentence their own.'

As always, the rooms were impressive and close, providing lots to discuss over a beer at the Corkman. With just two more rounds until the finals begin, it's still anyone's game- and remember, there will be speaker prizes for the top ranked individuals!
See you next Tuesday,
Claire and Candice
