Advanced Debating Training

This Sunday we are again holding an Advanced Training Day at the Law School.  It's a perfect chance to get all your debating groove on with some of the highest quality debaters in Victoria and get some practice unlike what you'll get at Hamish Malcolm.  We do highly-challenging topics, ranging from what are known as Open topics where no-one but the opening government knows exactly what the debate will be about, to those that explore the intricacies of Hugo Chavez's rule in Venezuela.  It's a warm and welcoming atmosphere with a keen focus on training and fun that is beneficial to all.
Details:
This Sunday @ 11am - 5pm, the law school.
RSVP if possible to hapsheppard@gmail.com.

MUDS Annual Dinner

Hi everyone,

I think we can safely say that the MUDS Annual Dinner was a resounding success!

The Gurkhas Nepalese restaurant function room allowed us to be our normal boisterous selves, the Nepalese food was beautifully prepared and tasted great and the wine flowed freely throughout the evening.

The entertainment included a ‘Best Toast’ competition (won by Peter Paxinos for his toast to the original and very handsome Gurkhas soldiers!) and a series of social awards such as ‘The Amanda Vanstone Sexy award’ for the sexiest MUDsian (won by Hugh Sheppard!).

The after party took place at Charlton’s karaoke bar, where we sang out of tune till the wee hours of the morning. My personal favourite was the emotional rendition by Tony Kung, Seamus Coleman, Erica Leaney and Peter Paxinos of ‘Hotel California’.

To all those of you who participated in the night of festivities that was the Annual Dinner, I hope you had a great time and I’ll look forward to seeing you at future MUDS social events.

Cheers,

Trina Malone

(your humble social officer at MUDS)

*Hamish Malcolm Report
Another week, another stellar round of Hamish Malcolm! After kicking off the night with some valuable manner tips from Seamus (remember: whales don't have whites in their eyes), we discoed on to our debates. The topic for round 4 was 'that this house would allow NGO's to gain full membership of the UN,' allowing all four rooms to showcase both their persuasive prowess and impressive general knowledge.
Afterwards, as per tradition, our walking party made its way to the Corkman, where the beer is cold and the nachos divine.
Round 5 is break round- the 8 top ranked teams after this next round will move on to the Semi Finals!
See you there,
Cheers,
Claire and Candice
