Upcoming Events
Upcoming events in MUDS!(RSVP!)This email contains information on two MUDS events which are approaching very soon: Sunday's mini-competition, and the deadline to express interest in Easters. Mini-competition Ready to hone your debating skills or just want to get a handle on advanced debating techniques? The Sunday Mini Competition is for you! Members with all levels of experience are welcome and it is the perfect opportunity to warm-up for Easters 2008 or other tournaments further down the track. There will be training provided by a special guest trainer, Tim Sonnreich (Australs Champion and Worlds Grand Finalist). Date: Sunday, 30 March 2008 Time: 11am - 5pm Schedule Location: Melbourne Uni - Law School Register your interest now! (Teams will be formed on an ad hoc basis, so there's no need to arrange a team before Sunday.) RSVP: mudsonline@gmail.com. Easters Although the Easter weekend has just passed, "Easters" the debating tournament is still coming! Usually held over the Easter long weekend, the Australian Novice Debating Championships (aka "Easters"), this year the earliness of Easter means that the Championships will instead be held over the ANZAC day weekend (25th-27th April 2008), at Macquarie University in Sydney. For more information about this awesome tournament, see the Macquarie Easters website. To attend this tournament, you must register your interest on the MUDS website. Easters involves more than 300 students from across Australia who compete through six preliminary rounds to reach the knock out finals for the top 16 teams who then contest the title of Australian Champions in the Grand Final on Sunday 27th April. Easters is a tournament specifically designed for debaters who have never debated at university before. As such, this is the perfect opportunity for MUDS debaters to get used to university debating, while getting to know debaters from Melbourne and all around the country. Last year Melbourne Uni sent the largest contingent in the country and ultimately had a team in the Grand Final as well as the tournament's best speaker and best novice speaker!! Some of the Keynote Speakers during the event include Professor Ros Atherton, Australian Law Reform Commissioner and Justice Michael Kirby AC CMG, High Court of Australia. Easters is open to MUDS members of all ages. The deadline for registrations of interest is 5pm, this Sunday, March 30th. MUDS Calendar
