MUDS Update: Week 8
Saturday 16 April, 2011
Hi everyone!
This week is the second week of the Pre-Easters Competition, so all Easters teams and adjudicators should be there, as well as any other MUDs members who would like to debate or adjudicate or watch.
MUDS is desperately seeking adjudicators to fill places at Easters in order to meet our adjudication requirements and keep all of our teams! There may also be places for female debaters. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ATTENDING EASTERS AND FILLING ONE OF THESE PLACES MUDS NEEDS TO KNOW ASAP! This is really urgent so if you're interested please email muds@mudsonline.net right away!
What do you get out of Easters? At the exceptionally good price of $470 you get travel to and from Adelaide, a team t-shirt, 4 nights of very nice accommodation, all meals provided, a great experience and plenty of social events with lots of free alcohol, as well as some great debating/adjudicating opportunities!
This full training day, including 2 training sessions from Phil Barker and 2 debates and opportunities for adjudication is open to ALL MUDS MEMBERS, regardless of whether or not you are attending Easters. For Easters attendees it is compulsory, and for others we highly encourage you to attend as it is a great day for improving skills and practising debates and adjudication if you'd like to have a go at that.
You must email muds@mudsonline.net if you'd like to attend to debate if you're not in an Easters team, so we can create swing teams for debating.
Easters team members and adjudicators MUST email muds@mudsonline.net if they DO NOT WISH TO ATTEND, as it is assumed you will be attending.
MUDS debaters and adjudicators have been invited to attend the Monash Association of Debaters Easters training day being held tomorrow (Saturday) at the Monash Clayton campus. This is a great chance to get more practice (the more the better!) before Easters, and try out debating some extra topics (the more you've tried the more prepared you'll be for topics at Easters!). The training involves 2 debates with excellent quality adjudication and feedback. If you and your team are interested in attending, please contact MAD externals officer Gemma at monash.debaters.externals@gmail.com ASAP for more information.
Toby Halligan (former ANU debater) is offering free tickets to his comedy festival show.
The first 5 people to reply to muds@mudsonline.net will get free double passes to attend. The dates for the giveaway are: Tuesday 19th, Wednesday 20th or Thursday 21st April. The following is a description of the show:
"The excellent Toby Halligan (that's me!) is doing his first solo show, Electile Dysfunction, in this years Comedy Festival and we're keen to get students into the show to spread the word.
What is this?
Political satirist, improviser and all-round great guy Toby Halligan is making his Melbourne Comedy Festival solo debut with Electile Dysfunction. Ever gotten drunk, gone home with someone, and then been embarrassed when you can't perform? 2010 was the year Australia went to bed with Kevin, woke up with Julia and found Tony Abbott hiding in the closet. Australian politics has never been so flaccid and it'll take more than nasal spray to fix it. Toby Halligan has the hilarious solutions to help Australia deal with its disappointment."
Thanks!
Emma Browne
Secretary.
