MUDS Update: Week 9
Wednesday 4 May, 2011

Hi MUDSians!

Firstly, I would like to start by congratulating our wonderful Easters Contingent on a terrific tournament! Particular congratulations are in order for Melbourne 9 (Daniel Golder, Michelle Bashta and Lachlan Rule) and adjudicators Steph D'Souza and Kelly Butler for breaking to the finals rounds! Special thanks to Michael Ciesielski and Tim Blair for organising the contingent and ensuring everyone who attended had a fabulous time!

1. Weekly Meeting, Tuesday 5:30 pm, CHARLES PEARSON THEATRE, ERC (NEW VENUE!) - Freehills Cup Rounds 1 and 2

This week's meeting is to be held in a new venue, a lecture theatre in the ERC building. As we are running two rounds of debating back to back it is essential that everyone turns up on time so we can get the first round under way!

  • For this comp you are free to arrange your own teams, as long as you comply with the Novice Rule (each team must have AT LEAST 1 novice, being someone who has not been to 2 Easters or 1 Australs)
  • We highly recommend that your team be 4 or 5 people as this will ensure that at least 3 are available to debate each round as well as allowing you to provide adjudicators as required (see below)
  • You can sign up as a team (but each team member should sign up separately!) or as an individual (in which case we'll put you in a team)
  • If you wish to adjudicate only, please email muds@mudsonline.net with your name and a brief outline of your adjudication experience.

PLEASE SIGN UP FOR THE INTERNAL COMPETITION HERE: http://www.mudsonline.net/internalcompetitions

PLEASE NOTE (must-read fine print):

  1. All team members must adjudicate at some point during the competition in order for your team to be eligible to break to the finals rounds, so even if your team has 4 or 5 people we suggest that you all try to turn up each night so that 1 or 2 can adjudicate. It is essential that teams provide adjudicators otherwise we will not have enough adjudicators to go around!
  2. As there are two rounds of debates, the night is likely to run later than previous nights. Never fear! Please bring along $5 and we will arrange for a PIZZA DINNER between the rounds to keep you going!
  3. If you have class until 6:15 you will have to inform your team members (or us if you register as an individual) and simply come as soon as possible. You may choose to adjudicate the first round, as you should be able to arrive in time for the start of the first debate (please let us know if you would like to do that), or you can watch your team (or debate with very little preparation) and join in the second round of the night.

Thanks, see you Tuesday!
