MUDS Update: Week 6 - VENUE CHANGE AND EASTERS TEAM FORMATION!
Sunday 3 April, 2011

Hello lovely MUDSians!

1. Weekly Meeting, 5:30 pm, Harold White Lecture Theatre, Arts Building (Cnr Swanston and Grattan Streets)

TRAINING:

This week's training will be run by highly experienced and esteemed debater Tim Sonnreich, who will be taking us through the nuances of case construction. Tim has written an article on this very subject, which was published in the Monash Debating Review, and which I have attached. It is strongly recommended that you read the article before the Tuesday training session, as it will help you to follow and get the most out of Tim's presentation, particularly if you are relatively new to debating. The article you want is the Feature Article: There is no spoon, commencing on page 7.

EASTERS TEAM FORMATION:

MUDS will be forming Easters teams this Tuesday - make sure you attend that night if you'd like to debate at Easters. The Australian Intervarsity Debating Championships (affectionately known as "Easters") are held towards the start of every year, and the four-day tournament is a great way for novices to jump into university debating.

This year, Easters will be held at the University of Adelaide from the 26th to the 29th April. As well as the debating, Easters includes some excellent social events, and a Championship Dinner. MUDS will arrange a chartered bus for the journey, and the tournament organisers provide meals, accommodation, and some alcohol.

You're also welcome to come to team formation if you can't attend Easters but still want to debate on Tuesday. If this is you, please email internal.competitions@mudsonline.net.

If you can't attend team formation, but are still keen to come to Easters, please email vice.president@mudsonline.net before Tuesday afternoon.

3. MUDSlinger is seeking articles!

MUDSlinger is the MUDS newsletter and is currently seeking articles and other submissions for the EASTERS Edition! Write about your MUDS experience so far as a 1st/2nd/3rd...etc year, or you previous experience of EASTERS or AUSTRALS!  Write something witty about debating in general if you like, or if drawing is more your thing why don't you create a debating-related cartoon? This could be your chance to get published and shine! I think you get the idea, so if you have something you'd like to submit please email it to our Publications Officer Steph at publications@mudsonline.net!

2. DAV Adjudicator Accreditation

If you took the adjudicator training and are not yet accredited with the DAV but would like to be, please contact Monique at vpat@dav.com.au.

Thanks! See you on Tuesday in the Harold White Lecture Theatre!
